Since its inception, CASA has provided an opportunity for persons interested in gaining knowledge and experience in working with clients who are experiencing substance abuse problems, to enrol as volunteers.
Many of these persons would have benefited from tertiary education and would have completed First Degree and or Master Degree in Social Work, Counselling and Psychology; others would have been active members in the Barbados work force. The experience gained at CASA has helped many in their career development as several have been successful in securing well-paid jobs.
Unfortunately CASA has been the loser in that the organization has not been successful in procuring the financial capacity to employ the volunteers we train and in essence other companies, and agencies are the beneficiaries. Nevertheless, CASA would not have survived without volunteers and it is therefore most appropriate that we recognise and reward some of those persons who have made significant contributions to the development of the centre.
